Tom Delay has become the national symbol of the culture of corruption that has gone on for too long in Washington. But, Delay and Duke Cunningham are just that: symbols. They represent a system that has placed special interest influence above serving the people of this country.

Tom Delay’s decision to leave Congress is not an event to celebrate; it is a call to action for those who want to see a change in the way Washington works.

I have proposed the toughest ethics package in the country because I believe that the people of the 50th District and the people of this country deserve better than what the current system has given them: a Medicare Bill for the big drug companies, an Energy bill for the profitable oil companies and secret pork-barrel spending for Washington special interests.

This election will not be about Democrats, Republicans, Delay or Cunningham. It will be about making Washington work for us again.
