In God's Name, Please Send Help...........
Yesterday, Newsweek began to tell us of the plight of Katrina's refugees. Yes, refugees in American. American turned out on the street without help or hope. Today we are watching as the Bush Administration abandons tens of thousands of American in New Orleans without concern or remorse. The only concern the Bush Administration has right now is to save its own hide.
25,000, maybe 40,000 Americans are suffering and dying in plain sight at the New Orleans Superdome. Reporters can get to them with cameras. Helicopters can see them. They are dying in a place to which the authorities sent them. The Bush Administration is watching them die and is doing nothing. No, I take that back, they are doing a great deal..............of talking and shopping and trying to figure out who to blame.
Atrios pins Scotty to the wall.
Dying person: "We gotta get some help. We really need some help."
Scott McClellan: "There are ways for them to get that help."
Unbelievable.
At AmericaBlog, we find the Secretary of State shopping for shoes in New York, while Canadian rescue teams are locked out of the United States.
"Department of Homeland Security as well as other U.S. agencies were contacted by the Canadian government requesting permission to provide help. Despite this contact, Canada has not been allowed to fly supplies and personnel to the areas hit by Katrina. So, everything here is grounded. Prime Minister Paul Martin is reportedly trying to speak to President Bush tonight or tomorrow to ask him why the U.S. federal government will not allow aid from Canada into Louisiana and Mississippi."
Why the fuck would any country offer us help? The arrogant bastards running this country don't get it. They just don't get it.
Kevin Drum at the Washington Monthly has a chronology of the Bush Administration culpablity in the New Orleans disaster.
"A [Bush] crony with no relevant experience was installed as head of FEMA. Mitigation budgets for New Orleans were slashed even though it was known to be one of the top three risks in the country. FEMA was deliberately downsized as part of the Bush administration's conservative agenda to reduce the role of government. After DHS was created, FEMA's preparation and planning functions were taken away."
Motive, intent, opportunity. Guilty........
K/O has voices of the victims and the words of the perpetrator.
"President Bush don't need to be the President no more. President Bush ain't doin' his job. We got the whole coast line destroyed. I'm out here starvin', hungry, I finally got me a bottle a water and able to call my momma...."
That says it all. "Bush don't need to be the President no more........................" Was he ever the leader of this country?
