Duncan Hunter - Another Loser
In the Washington Post, Froomkin (the evil, but sneaky and unknown not-White House- correspondent liberal) points out the Dick Cheney is the big loser in George Bush's nancy boy retreat from John McCain.
As the International Herald Tribune points out, Hunter has been the chief supporter of The Big Dick's pro-torture agenda in the House. When the roof fell in on Cheney, Bush and Hunter, the San Diego congressman ran around like a headless chicken looking for cover.
"Then Duncan Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, announced that he would oppose the McCain measure unless the White House guaranteed in writing that it would have no effect on intelligence-gathering. Hunter's legitimate concerns have already been addressed with a provision that would allow CIA agents to defend themselves against torture charges by saying they were following legal orders. That protection is already provided to uniformed soldiers. The latest objections by Hunter, who has helped Vice President Dick Cheney try to block McCain's amendment, are just a smokescreen."
For those who don't know him, Hunter is a close pal of former Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham. Hunter has taken the big bucks from some of the Duke's key un-indicted co-conspirators.
Hunter is also the chief proponent of building a big fence to keep illegal aliens out of the country. All in all, he is quite a piece of work.
