Another Republican Hat In the CA-50 Ring

The Hill tells us that San Diego businessman, Ken King, a self-described moderate, has entered the Republican field for Duke Cunningham's vacated seat in CA-50.

"Business owner Ken King yesterday entered the GOP primary in California’s 50th District to vie for the seat recently vacated by Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-Calif.).

King, the owner of San Diego Pools, joins former Rep. Brian Bilbray, state Sen. Bill Morrow, former state Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian and businessman Alan Uke in the Republican contest."

According to the San Diego Union Tribune, King is planning on spending upwards of $2 million dollars during the campaign.

"He said he intends to get his name and message out with a partly self-funded $2 million campaign."

His message borders on the libertarian, which doesn't seem all that moderate to me.

"King... is a Republican who supports abortion rights. He said his priorities in Congress would be making tax cuts permanent, winning the war on terror and reining in federal spending.

King said Congress was wrong when it passed a bill to let Terry Schiavo's parents ask a federal judge to prolong the brain-dead woman's life.

"I believe in the freedom of the individual, and the government should stay out of our homes and out of our bedrooms," he said."

I wonder how he feels about a Republican president's decision to suspend the provisions of the 4th Amendment for American citizens. His answer to that question will tell us all we need to know about Mr. King.

King claims to be a moderate Republican. I'm not sure what that means. All Republicans in Congress seem to bend over at the same rate when the Bush wind blows. Frankly, I don't think there is any such beast as a "moderate Republican". There are Republicans who do the President's bidding willingly and those who do his bidding grudgingly. But, at the end of the day, they all bow before there exalted leader.
